MEENAKSHI AMMAN TEMPLE
MYTHOLOGY
Parvathi Devi appeared as a Child from Agni when her daughter, Kanchanamal, was married to Malayadasa. Some would say that Goddess Parvati emerged from Agni because of her promise to Kanchanamalai in the pre - birth. Parvati, who emerged from Agni, had three breasts, and the King was shocked by this. Then a voice sounded. The voice said that when she sees her husband, the third chest will disappear. King Pandiyan happily named the child as a barrier. She grew up teaching sixty - four coaches, sculpture, and horseback riding.
The King of Pandya thought to end the barrier. As usual, She cold only be covered if she fought in the millennial and the eight - legged. So she went to war and won the Tathagai, Brahman's Virtue and Brahman's Vaikuntham. When she went to Kailash she was ashamed of the Lord Shiva and her third chest had disappeared. Knowing the reason, Tarakai realize that she is the epitome of Parvati. After coming to Madurai with Lord Shiva, she married Lord Shiva in tirumala headed by Madurai.
