Nagaraja Temple in Nagarcoil

NAGARAJA TEMPLE 

This is the only temple dedicated to the worship of Nagar in our country in the temples such as Tiruppuram Pamani, Nagapattinam, Thirukkalahasti, Thiru Nageswaram, Thiruppanandal, Keezhiperumpallam, Tirunelvelli (Kodakanallur), the worship of Lord Shiva is the pride of the Nagas. HISTORY

Arulmigu Nadaraja temple is a famous pilgrimage center in the  district of Kanyakumari.Nagaraja Temple is located in the center of the city.Though the temple is looking east, pilgrims usually go through the south - facing tower.. The Nagaraja Temple was a shrine of the Samana until the 16th century AD in the early days. The main deity of the temple was Nagaraja, a Darnhendran. MYTHOLOGY

Samadhan is the 23rd Tirthankar of the Samana. FLAG AND TREE

Odavalli is the flag tree. On the exterior of the temple is a cobra - shaped cobra tree. Though the main source of the temple is Nagarajar, The flag tree stands opposite Anantha Krishna Sannidhi. Anantha Krishna's Brahmotsavam happens in the month of Thai. Then Ananthakrishna would rise up in the edifice.

THE TORTOISE FLAG

In the Perumal temples, It is customary to have a garland at the top of the flag treee. But her is the turtile. It is said that the tortoise is present in the flag tree of Perumal Shrine, since the snake and the fetus are enemies. The tortoise is also a vechile for ceremonics.
