BRIHADESWARA TEMPLE
The Brihadeswara temple in Thanjavur is one of the most famous temples in the world. The brihadeswara temple in Thanjavur,Tamilnadu,India popularly known as the Big Temple, is world famous. How this historic temple is built to this day is unclear, scientists say that even bulding on existing technology will take years.
Brihadeswara temple was formerly known as Rajarajeswarar Temple. The present name, Brihadeswarar , is given by the Marathas. They have brought this temple to itself as the Maha Shiva Temple.
TOWER
The highlight of the temple is that the shadow of the tower in the temple does not fall down at midday. It is no wonder that the stone shaped roof that was placed on top of the tower was made of a single stone wieghting about 80 tons,it is amazing how much more amazing it was.
The Shivalinga in the womb is said to emit excessive electromagnetic energy, and that energy is reflected and concentrated in these single stone tops. It is believed that this energy, which is made up of these positive thoughts, will bring peace and tranquility to the devotees who come here and bring them peace of mind and body.
NANDI STATUE
Here the huge Nandi statue opposite Lord Shiva is carved with a single stone. The Nandi statue of Rajaraja Chola was replaced by the Nandi statue of the Marathas. The statue of the Nandi statue of Raja Rajan is growing day by day. The statue of Nandi is still standing in the temple premises.
ARCHITECTURE
The inscription found in the temple indicates that the temple was built by Kuncharamallan Rajaraja Perundachan, an architectural masterpiece that still stands in his name and is still praised for his art. There is preception that this huge temple has many tunnels. It is said that most of these routes linking different places have been closed. This route was used by the sages, Kings and queens of the time to travel from one place to another in secret. These routes have been used extensively during festivals such as Deepavali Maha Shivaratri and Makara.
It is estimated that 1,30,000 tonnes of granite stones were used for the construction of the temple. It is no wonder that the temple stones were taken from a distance of about 50 miles in the absence of mountains and modern transport facilities.
Tanjore Temple is not only seen as a temple but has been declared by UNESCO as a heritage site because of its astonishing array of heritage and history.
If Raja Raja Chola was a major king and built this temple, his name must have been the one that built the temple. But the inscription on the temple records the names of those who worked to built the temple, from the architects to the launderers, and the helpers of the temple.
