THIRUCHENDUR MURUGAN TEMPLE
The special temple of Lord Murugan, Known as the "Aarupadai Veedu", are located in six towns in Palani, Thiruchendur, Thirutani, Swamimalai, Thiruparankundram and Palamudirsolai. Thiruchendur alone has five temples on top of the hill.The brigade is the place where the invading commander lodges with his soldiers. Thiruchendur was the commander-in-chief of Veerbahu and his army, with Muruga Peruman to sack Subhatran, come to known about the magnificent Thiruchendur Subaramaniya Swamy Temple.
HISTORY
The devas appealed to Lord Shiva destroy Surapadhman, who had troubled them. Shivayam, having made their request, made six traps from his forehead. Muruga peruman appeared from it,then he came to destroy Surapadhman by acccepting Lord Shiva's command.
On this occasion, Lord Jupitar, the Lord of the Gods, prayed to Lord Muruga.Muruga peruman, who showed him, stayed here. He also learned the history of the demons. He then sent a message to Surapadhman, his commander, Veerabahu. Then Murugan went his troops and killed him.
Jupiter Lord Murugan asked him to get up at this place where he was shown. Accordingly, Murugan also stayed here, Later Jupiter called Vishwakarma and built the temple here. Murugan become known as 'Chantinadhar' as he won the conquest of suran. Later the name came to be known as 'Sendhilnadhar'. Thalam was also known as 'Thrijayanthipuram' and later became Thiruchendur.
ARCHITECTURE
The 150 feet high tower of the temple has nine bases. Lord Murugan Peruman worshiped Lord Shiva and thanked him for his victory after attaining the sun.Jatamakudu is dressed like Shivayogi on the head. He has a lingam on the left rear wall. After giving the first fire to him, Murugan will perform the fire. In the Shanmugar shrine there is a lingam behind Swami. Since both are in darkness, the liturgy is only visible in the light.
Apart from this there is a Panjalinga shrine on the right of the Murugan shrine. Rajagopuram is on the western side of the Murugan shrine in Thiruchendur. Muruga Peruman looks at the sea, looking east.The main tower should be located in the east direction, opposite the Swami. But because the sea is in the area, the tower is built in the wesr. The door of the tower is always taller than the pedestal of Lord Murugan. This door will be opened only at midnight during Lord Murugan's pilgrimage to Kandasashti.
HIGHLIGHT
Of the six houses of Lord Murugan, only Thiruchendur is situated on the coast and the other five on the hill. On the left side of the Thiruchendur temple is Vallikkai. It is hoped that a child's privilege will soon be obtained by tying a cradle on the sandal hill in front of the cave.The Shanmukha Vilasam hall in the Thiruchendur Temple is 120 feet high and 60 feet wide. 124 pillars bear this....
IMPORTANT FESTIVALS
- Panguni Uthram, Thirukarthika, Vaikasi Visakam and Kanda Sashti are celebrated in the same manner as other Murugan temple.
- But in Thiruchendur, the first six days of Kandasashti are celebrated as Sashti fasting, Surasammaram, the seventh day of Lord Murugan, the daily of the diety, the next 5 days and the swing service in the Swami Tirukkalyana Kolam for 12 days.
