NANDI TEMPLE
Nandi is the patron saint of devotees at Basavankudi in Bangalore. Let's look at the history of this temple. The Nandi is outside the sanctum sanctorum, usually the source of the blessings. Built in the Dravidian style of architecture, the temple houses a huge statue of Nandi. The statue is found in a single stone with a height of 4.5 meters and a length of 6.5 meters. There is a small sculpture of Ganapathi near the tail of the Nandi.
Shiva is seen in the form of a linga in the small sanctum which is placed behind Nandi. Of all the Shiva temples. Nandi who is wearing the face of Lord Shiva, is showing his back to the temple in this temple alone. The peanut market is very popular in this temple every year. To their credit, many farmers offers peanuts as a tribute to Nandi Peruman.
