KASI VISWANATHAR TEMPLE
The Kasi Viswanath temple is located in Tirupattur, Centuries passed. One can learn the history of this ancient temple.Pulikal sage Viyagrabadhar worshiped the Lord who had been blessed with the title of Tiruppidavur. The water at this site once dried up. Thus the Lord was anointed and worshiped without water, the sage Pulikal.
At the time Indra was going to the Jambukeswarar temple. Thiruvanaikaval with his white elephant. It is the daily routing of Indra to take the water in white elephant from Kailayam and go to the Jambukeswarar temple and anoint it. That is why Indra was travelling by air.
Seeing the white elephant and going with Indra theertham. Viyagrabadar asked the white elephant, 'Give me a little tirtha to worship Lord Shiva'. The white elephant refused, saying, 'I cannot judge'.
When the sage heard this, the anger hit his head. Head dug the ground with his tiger nails. Immediately, the Gangas on Lord Shiva's head come down. Pouring water produced water. With that water, the sage performed Shiva. The water has turned into a spiral, which is now known as the 'Pulipaichi Theertham'.
The white elephant was delayed to the custody of the sage because of his logic. Jambukeswara queried what caused the delay, the sage asked the Lord for the water and the white elephant who told him that he refused to water it.
As soon as Jambukeswara was asked to give water to the sage, the white elephant returned to Tiruppidavur and asked the sage to take the tirtha. But the angry sage refused to say 'no'. Therefore, the white elephant himself anointed Lord Shiva with his Tirtha. The site of the history is Tirupattur. The mythical name of the town is Tiruppidavur. But they say it has changed to 'Tirupattur' over time.
Entering the south side of the temple there is an altar and Nandi. Next is the life-form of the sage Viyagrabadar, also known as the Pulikal. If one goes inside, the opposite is the Amman Shrine and the left is the Lord Shrine.
