SRI YAGANTI UMA MAHESWARAR TEMPLE
There are millions of temples in india. Sri Yaganti Uma Maheswarar Temple is a temple located in the Kurnool District of Andhra Pradesh. Many of the thousands of temples have amazing features and historical background.
The size of the Nandi Idol in this famous Shiva temple is said to be increasing every year. The Department of Archeology has also confirmed this.
HISTORY
The temple is built according to Vaishnava traditions. It was built in the 15th century by king Harihara Bukka Raya, a member of the Sangam dynasty of the Vijayanagara Empire. The temple is located at a distance of 308 from Hyderabad and 359 km from Vijayawada. It reflects the traditions of the ancient Pallavas, Cholas, Chalukyas and Vijayanagara rulers. THE PILLARS WERE REMOVED AS THE STATUE GREW
As the size of this Nandi idol in front of Lord Shiva in the Sri Yaganti Uma Maheswarar Temple is increasing day by day, some of the pillars around it have been removed. It is said that many more pillars will have to be removed in the future due to the growth of Nandi.
GROWING NANDI STATUE
The huge Nandi Idol in front of the Shiva shrine in the temple is said to have been small before. But scientists say the Nandi statue grows an inch in size every 20 years. They believe that the stone which the Nandi statue is made is expandable. The notice board placed in front of the Nandi statue states that in the past there was enough space for the Nandi to crawl due to the large size of the statue.
THE STORY OF BUILDING A SHIVA TEMPLE THINKING OF BUILDING A VISHNU TEMPLE
The temple was built by Agathi Mamuni is to build a temple for Sri Venkateshwara. But due to the broken thumb of the statue of perumal during construction, the temple establishment had to stop in the middle.
Disappointed by this, Sage Agathi was penitent towards Lord Shiva. Lord Shiva, who appears before him at that time, said that this place was not a suitable place to build a temple for Sri Venkateshwara as it looked like a temple. Legend has it that Agasthiyar built a temple here for Lord Shiva.
TEMPLE WITHOUT CROWS
The sages used to perform penance in the area where the temple is located. The story goes that a sage was then harrassed by crows and cursed that crows should not enter this place anymore. The crow is the vehicle of saturn Bhagavan. It is said that Lord Saturn will not enter here as the crow will be barred by the sage curse.
BLESSED AS ARTHANARISVARA
Without the Shiva lingam as in other Shiva temples. Lord Shiva and Parvati are seated in the form of Arthanarisvara . Morever, this statue is carved out of the same stone. This may be the first temple of its kind.
BEAUTIFUL PUSHKARANI
The beautiful scenery surrounded by mountains, this temple is home to the beautiful Pushkarani. The constant flow of water here is seen as a special feature. This Pushkarani is always watered all year found. No one knowns where it is coming from. It is customary to bath in this holy water before entering the temple. Devotees believe that bathing in this pool will remove all sins.
