The Kanyakumari Temple, where Amman resides, is located at the confluence of the Bay of Bengal on the east, the Arabian Sea on the west, and the indian ocean on the south. It is the southernmost tip of India. This is one of the power bases of the Devi. This place is considered to be the place wher the back of the goddess fell.

HISTORY

This history can be known in mythological times, even the monsters can obtain boons by doing heavy penanace. Those triplets who are fed up with heavy penance will give a boon. This is how the demon Banasuran, in his penchant for Brahmadeva, received the verse that "no one can destroy himself and that "no man can die except a virgin" The monster throught 'how can death be done by a virgin with a tender heart and mind?' Banasuran, who received the gift was unbearable. He was worshiping saints and gods. Thus the gods and sages sought refuge with Lord Vishnu. But Vishnu told them the secret of the death of the 'virgin girl' in Banasura's death.
Lord Shiva was sitting next to Vishnu offered the solution. Devas and sages advised that the goddess of power could destroy the monster, Devas and sages meditated on the thought of Shakti Devi.In order to protect the gods and sages from these monsters, Shaktidevi incamated as a virgin girl in the south of kumari, Shakti Devi, who was born as a virgin on this earth, was devoted to the Lord and made a great penanace to end the marriage.
At that time Lord Shiva was living in the place of Susindram by the name of Thanumalayan. Eesan decided to marry Shakthi Goddess, who had incarnated as a virgin girl on earth, and wanted to marry her.
The gods who knew this had come to fear. That's how to deatroy that monster once you get married to Shakthi Devi. But it was only Narada Muni who realized the three times and realized that this was the festival of Eesan.
Shakthi Devi and Eesan's wedding talk came to the House. But the idea that the marriage should somehow stand out was the idea of the gods and Narada, Narada started rioting to stop the marriage Naradar Riot can go on  of its own.
Narada looked at Lord Shiva and made a request on behalf of the gods. The demand was also addressed to Devi. It was also said that the marriage would be terminated if the groom did not arrive before sunrise.
The day came for the weding. Lord Shiva departed from Suchindram towards Kumari. Even before dawn, Narada figured out the service. Lord Shiva, Hearing the sound of Rooster, went back to Suchindram, thinking that the sun had risen and the marriage would not go on again.

The wrath of the Goddess waiting for marriage in Kumarimunai reached it peak. The sun has risen. But the wrath of Goddess became so great that Eesan did not come to marry the goddess yet. She took the flowers for the wedding and threw them on the sea sand. This is why it is said that the sandy area of Kanyakumari is colored. At this time, Banasura came to marry the Goddess. The Goddess is now at the height of her anger. "I don't want to marry you"; She said to him. But Banasuran did not leave . He forced Shakthi Devi to marry her.
Panasuran, who was supposed to be close to the Goddess, could not even come close. Her anger caught on fire and she rose up and tortured Parasakthi Devi Banasura, a skyscraper. All the gods offered flowers to the goddess to attain calm. They were grateful to the Goddess who saved them.
History said that the angry goddess has reached Shanti and from that day to date, She sits as a virgin girl, Bhagavathi Amman, in Kanyakumari, thinking of Lord Shiva and removing the grivances of the people.
If virgins who do not get married , pray to the temple and get married soon. It is believed that this tirtha will be solved in the tirtha which is in Kanyakumari before the Kasi and the water will be drowned.

HISTORICAL

There are reference to Kolli Mountain in the antiqulties of Silappadikaram. Manimekalai, Suburban. Five hundred and more. The history of Kollipaval is different from that of the sangam texts. Historical records show that this hill and its associated villages were ruled by a king name Ori around 200 CE. His daughter is Kollipawa. She is the best beauty. She has been mentioned in many songs in the Puranam. One of the most Historically important valves of the region,Valvil Ori ruled over Kolli hils. The rule the cheran was free from the clutches of the valley of the Kollimalai.

Ori is the name of mature colour honey. He got a special name, Ori, because he had this horse. His name is Athan. Valvil was called Ori because he was the best of archery. The name valvil Ori became so famous that it killed five animals, Piercing the elephant, the tiger's mouth, the deer's body, the wild boar, and the head of the owl. There are many songs praising the ability of Valvil Ori. He came under the rule of Namakkal Rajamapuram, Rasipuram and Kolli Hills. The Rasipuram Shiva Temple and the Kolli Hills Charlapileswara Temple were built during the region of Valvil ori. There is a statue of Valvil Ori. The festival is held annually. Historical evidence suggests that he belonged to maravar.

Perurankal Iron Fleet, Malayan Thirumadikari came with the army and fought with the Valvil. In the battle at the water-sharp, he lost his temper and died. To mark the victory of perurankal on Ori, he published a coin called kollippu Bharyan. After defeating and killing Valvil Ori in the battle, Perurankal entered the battlefield with his army. But the people of Kollimalai gathered together and prevented him from entering the town.

At the death of Valvil ori, his cousin Adhiyaman Nedumanchi, with the help of the cholan King Valavan, invated Tirukovallur and destroyed the town: Ponni's cell is said to have uprooted the hill fort of Mullur. 19 Inscription have been found at Kolli Hills. Of these, 12 inscription belong to the period of the Chola Kings. There is some suggestion that this may be the 'Madhuvanam', a mountainous region which is mentioned as the year of Sukrivan in the Ramayana. Eighteen Siddhas of the Kalangi sage have stayed in several caves in this hill.
